Maddy's 5th Birthday Extraordinaire! (Part 3 of 3)

Maddy and Chuck E Cheese!

Quite some time ago, as I was driving Maddy home from school, she said: "Mommy, I want to go to Chuck E. Cheese!"  Seeing as we'd never been there nor had we talked about it, I asked her how she knew about Chuck E Cheese.  "I saw it on TV" she said.  Hmmmm, those Saturday mornings where I sleep on the couch and let Maddy watch cartoons on Nick Jr have clued her into more than I had ever imagined.  Commercials...

So that is how Maddy's third and last party celebrating entrance into her 5th year w happened at Chuck E Cheese.  It was much as I remembered from being a little kid myself, only the big ball pit was missing.  There were lots of arcade games, some riding toys and the mechanical characters that sang and danced in a somewhat creepy (only a little) way.  The party package provided pizza, drinks and tokens for the kids, and a round in the "Tornado" for Maddy and one parent (I chose Steve!) to collect as many tickets as possible.

Everyone had a blast (Riley and Wilson may have had the best time!) and the parents had fun too.  I got to play my heart's content of Skee Ball so I was happy.  Maddy also had a great time, although Chuck E Cheese himself made her a bit shy.  I don't blame her.

All in all, three birthday events made for a happy little 5 year old!  Happy Maddy equals happy parents!

Maddy's 5th Birthday Extraordinaire! (Part 2 of 3)

Maddy's Birthday Circle at ChildRoots

We celebrated Maddy's actual birthday (April 25th) as well!  I left Maddy birthday messages on the bathroom mirror for her to see when she woke up - she loved it - and she had her birthday circle at ChildRoots that afternoon.  For the birthday circle, parents bring in photos of their child from every year of life, starting with newly born through present day. The birthday child shows the first photo to her class (starting with newborn), then holds the earth and walks around the "sun" (in our case, a yellow object placed in the middle of the rug representing the sun) as all her classmates sing: "The earth goes round the sun, the earth goes round the sun, the earth goes round the sun, the sun, another year is done."  Then she shows the "one year old" photo, then singing again and walking around the "sun" and so on.  At the end, all the kids who want to share special birthday messages with the birthday child.

That night Maddy enjoyed her Baskin Robbins Princess Ice Cream Cake and opened presents.  We got her Calico Critters Rabbit Family, animals and some clothes.  Mike and Jan got her...a new bike (but we had to go pick one out at a later date)!  Mom and Dad got her some cute clothes and Shopkins kiddo beauty products in a cute little backpack.

It was a fun day!

Maddy's 5th Birthday Extraordinaire! (Part 1 of 3)

ChildRoots Spring Birthday Crew

Maddy's first of 3 birthday parties occurred April 17th 2016.  Signe, Jamie, Maddy, Eli, Ruby and Kai were the birthday kids honored at the party.  Like last year, we rented the gym and party room at Sellwood Community Center, and the kids had a great time playing with all the ride-on toys, basketballs, hula hoops and wagon.  It was somewhat controlled chaos and so much fun for the kids!  Each birthday child's family pitched in to make it a great day!  Our family was in charge of decorating and we also brought little Minion bouncy balls for each child.  Most of the Southsiders were able to attend the party which was wonderful!  Lots of kids, lots of laughter, and lots and lots of fun!
